PROMENVIR
High Performance Computer-Based Probabilistic Mechanical Design Environment
Purpose:
The project was funded under the frame of ESPRIT European projects ( Proposal N: 21089).
PROMENVIR provides an innovative way to account for uncertainty in mechanical designs using high performance parallel computing. The reliability of structural designs can thus be quantified and improved. This powerful and flexible solution runs on existing commercial platforms networked across geographically remote locations. Parallel operation is supported over both local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) comprising supercomputers and/or workstations. PROMENVIR is a modular solution with interactive graphical interfaces. The advanced Monte Carlo sampling modules form the computational kernel of the system, while the problem definition module provides the main user interface, where the parameters of the problem are defined quickly and efficiently. The results are displayed graphically through the statistical processing module after the analysis has been completed. Alternatively, the evolution of the Monte Carlo analysis can be monitored in real time. The system is highly interactive and offers a host of statistical functions for the user to view the results.
