Turin, May 2, 2023 – The project, co-financed by the Piedmont Region under the “F.E.S.R. 2014/2020” call, represents Blue Engineering’s response to the contemporary challenges of urban transport and is the solution for last-mile urban mobility, with fully autonomous driving.

The Blue Trolley Bus (BTB) is the latest revolution from the minds of Blue Engineering S.r.l., an innovative urban vehicle presented on May 2, 2023, during an event attended by the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, the Regional Councilor for Productive Activities, Andrea Tronzano, the Councilor for Ecological and Digital Transition, Environmental Policies, and Transportation Innovation of the City of Turin, Chiara Foglietta, the President of GTT, Antonio Fenoglio, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Turin, Dario Gallina, the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Turin, Guido Saracco, Professor Luisella Celi from the University of Turin, the General Director of ANFIA, Gianmarco Giorda, and Bartolomeo Giachino, the former Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport from 2008 to 2011.

The Blue Trolley Bus is the result of a research study began in 2018 for the development of an urban vehicle capable of combining the advantages of city railway transport with the flexibility of a bus. BTB also makes it possible to eliminate the infrastructure necessary for tramway traffic from city streets.

BTB will be the first urban transport vehicle of its kind with fully autonomous driving, high capacity and able to move smoothly on any route thanks to an innovative dynamic articulation system for curves. The vehicle is fully electric with wireless charging and is equipped with an innovative internal air purification and filtration system generated by an intermediate coating consisting of real plants developed in cooperation with the University of Turin.

Mohamed Eid, CEO of Blue Engineering, said: “Today is a very important day for BLUE Engineering, marking a key moment in the development and growth of our company. We have been able to use the research funds provided by the Piedmont Region to create an innovative and technologically advanced prototype, a revolutionary product resulting from several years of work. Even during the most difficult months of the pandemic, we were able to complete the first autonomous Trolley Bus for mass transportation in urban areas. We are already working on the final product, which will involve the excellence of the supply chain present in our territory. This is another great example of how Italian companies know how to seize and win market challenges, especially in times of extreme global difficulty.”
